But have you ever wondered what makes buffalo wings so special?

What makes buffalo wings different?

The differences between buffalo wings and other ways of making wings can be subtle at times. Here are a few key factors that set them apart from other wing options:

  • The sauce: Buffalo wings are typically coated in a spicy, zesty, and rich sauce made from hot sauce and butter, which gives them their unique flavor profile.
  • The texture: Buffalo wings are typically deep-fried until they’re crispy and golden, which gives them a unique texture that sets them apart from other wing options. (The recipe bellow veers away from this tradition, however)
  • The heat: The heat level of buffalo wings can range from mild to hot depending on how spicy the hot sauce used in the recipe is. Buffalo wings differs from hot wings in that there is a cool zesty punch while hot wings hit you with just hot spice.
  • The versatility: Buffalo wings can be served as an appetizer, a main course, or even as a snack. And with a wide range of sauces and spices to choose from, there’s no shortage of flavor options to choose from.

Those are the key factors that set buffalo wings apart from other wing options. Whether you’re a fan of sweet and tangy BBQ wings, or spicy and crispy buffalo wings, there’s no shortage of delicious options to choose from.

What is the difference between BBQ wings and buffalo wings?

When it comes to wings, there’s no shortage of delicious options to choose from, particularly when using tasty pasture raised and organic fed chicken wings, like ours (click here to buy our wings for your next party). But when it comes to BBQ wings and buffalo wings, what’s the difference? While both are great options for game day or any other time you’re craving some finger-licking goodness, there are a few key differences that set these two styles of wings apart.

BBQ wings are typically coated in a sweet, tangy sauce that’s made with tomato paste, vinegar, molasses, and a blend of spices. They are often slow-cooked on the grill to ensure that the sauce caramelizes and adheres to the wings. This style of wings is a staple at barbecues, hence the name, and are a popular choice for outdoor gatherings.

Buffalo wings, on the other hand, are known for their spicy, zesty flavor. They’re usually deep-fried and then coated in a mixture of hot sauce and butter, with the option of adding additional spices to taste. Unlike BBQ wings, which are slow-cooked, buffalo wings are typically served crispy and hot, making them a popular choice for game day or as an appetizer.

So, in summary, the main difference between BBQ wings and buffalo wings is the sauce they are coated in. BBQ wings are sweet and tangy, while buffalo wings are spicy and zesty.

  • 1/4 cup hot sauce, Frank’s Hot Sauce is traditional
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

Instructions:

  1. Thoroughly pad dry the chicken. Preheat your oven to 450°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with foil and set a wire rack over the pan. Set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the baking powder, salt, and garlic powder. Throw in the wings and toss to coat the wings. Arrange wings on the wire rack.
  3. Bake for 25 minutes, then flip the wings and bake for another 25 minutes or until crispy.
  4. While the wings are cooking, melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add the brown sugar and your favorite hot sauce (most commonly used is Frank’s Hot Sauce). Stir until well combined.
  5. Once the wings are done cooking, remove them from the oven and place them in a large bowl. Pour the sauce over the wings and toss until they are evenly coated.
  6. Serve the wings hot, with celery and blue cheese dressing on the side if desired. Enjoy!
